Carl Rathus
Carl travelled to Japan in his twenties and there he heard and fell in love with the sounds of the Japanese flute, the Shakuhachi. He followed a career as a mathematician for a while and then became a molecular biologist but he never forgot his love of the Shakuhachi. He gave up his rewarding career as a respected scientist to follow his passion for the shakuhachi and become a full time professional musician.

Both Carl and Heather are very fond of Carnatic music and go to the festival in Chennai as often as possible.
